Following classes on Wednesday, August 28th, we’ve allotted time for visiting some of the area’s greatest attractions. See what San Diego and La Jolla have to offer through one of Flow-Cal’s group activities or explore the local attractions on your own.

With more than 30 restored aircraft, and nearly 10 acres of exhibits and displays, the USS Midway Museum, brings you the most complete cross-section of carrier aviation in the world. Our group will explore several exhibit areas from the engine room to the flight deck through a self-guided audio tour that brings Midway’s history to life and adds a personal touch to what it was like to live onboard a floating city at sea. Midway is an opportunity to experience the uniqueness of San Diego, with spectacular flight deck views of the downtown skyline, San Diego Bay Bridge, and active U.S. Navy ships!

On this scenic shopping trip, we’ll take you to the heart of downtown La Jolla, right next to La Jolla Cove, at Girard Avenue and Prospect Street. This area is known for its mix of unique boutique shops with cute storefronts and picturesque sidewalks to make for a lovely stroll. If you need a break from browsing, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants sprinkled among the shops, or head down to the beach for the ultimate photo op. La Jolla Cove is arguably the most famous beach in La Jolla for its gorgeous atmosphere and crystal clear water.

Spend the day monkeying around with Flow-Cal at the San Diego Zoo, a must see in Southern California. Voted the #1 Best Zoo in the World by TripAdvisor, the 100-acre area is home to more than 3,500 animals (including rare and endangered) and a prominent botanical collection with more than 700,000 exotic plants. Additionally, it’s one of the few zoos in the entire world that houses and successfully breeds the giant panda! This activity is self-guided and includes Zoo admission with unlimited use of Guided Bus Tour, Express Bus, Skyfari aerial tram, and all exhibits and shows.

If you’re not attending one of our organized events, we’ve listed some other great activities to explore during your visit.

Seaport Village is a fun waterfront area composed of more than 70 unique shops, galleries, and restaurants adjacent to San Diego Bay. The nearby Headquarters at Seaport, known for its eclectic blend of classically inspired architectural styles and rich history as the former San Diego Police Dept. headquarters, was recently added with several new upscale restaurants and boutique shops.

Balboa Park is a magnificent cultural oasis that includes 17 museums, tranquil gardens and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. At 1,200 acres, Balboa Park is the largest urban cultural park in North America and a must see on any visit to San Diego. The park has a rich history reflected through stunning architecture, art installations, and cultural events throughout the year.

Coronado Island lies south of San Diego and about 25 minutes from La Jolla. With gentle surf, sparkling wide-sand beaches, charming main street and great hotels, including the famous Hotel del Coronado, this island paradise is perfect for relaxing on the beach or strolling down Coronado's beachfront boardwalk with local shops, restaurants, and other things to do.

San Diego is the perfect climate for a round of golf with beautiful courses laid out among seaside settings, desert mountains or inland valleys. There are three municipal golf courses in San Diego: Balboa Park, Mission Bay Golf Course and Practice Center, and the famous Torrey Pines. Please note, the South Course at Torrey Pines is undergoing deferred maintenance. Visit the project information page for updates.
