Following classes on Wednesday, October 24th, we’ve allotted time for visiting some of the area’s greatest attractions. See what Galveston Island has to offer through one of Flow-Cal’s group activities or explore the local attractions on your own.

Take a tour of Galveston Island’s popular attractions by both land and sea. The first stop is Bishop’s Palace, Galveston's grandest and best-known building. This Victorian castle was cited by the American Institute of Architects as one of the 100 most important buildings in America. If you can only visit one of Galveston's architectural treasures, the exquisite Bishop's Palace is the one to see.

For the second part of the tour, we’ll board the amphibious Ducks for a unique Galveston experience. The Duck Tour travels down Seawall Boulevard, overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, and throughout the island past several historic mansions, through the Strand Historic District and the Silk Stocking District, and enters the water for a cruise across the bayou! During the entire Duck Tour, you will enjoy a humorous-yet-informative tour given by an experienced captain.

A Flow-Cal Users Group Galveston tradition! Reel ‘Em In on a 4 hour afternoon fishing trip, or just come along for the ride. Rods and reels, tackle, squid bait, stringer and ice for the catch will be provided. Expecting to catch a big one? Then a fishing license is recommended and can be purchased onsite. A one-day license is $11 for a Texas resident and $16 for a non-resident.

Enjoy a seaside course with a tropical feel at the Moody Gardens Golf Course. This first-class course features a multi-million-dollar comprehensive renovation by the renowned golf course architects of Jacobsen Hardy Golf Course Design. The attention to detail provides Galveston residents with a premier public golf course and also adds to Galveston's many tourist attractions.

If you’ll be traveling light and leaving your clubs at home, the rental fee is $30 plus tax payable to the Moody Gardens Golf Course.

Please note, in order to help offset the higher costs associated with this activity, Golf at Moody Gardens will be $35 payable during the online registration.

Known for its historic architecture and sparkling Gulf waters, Galveston Island is a fascinating place. If you’re not attending one of our organized events, we’ve listed some suggestions to explore during your visit.

Moody Gardens

Moody Gardens is one of the premier educational/leisure facilities in the southwest. The innovative and creative attractions include an aquarium pyramid, a 3-D theater, tropical rainforest pyramid, a ridefilm theater, and the year-round Schlitterbahn Waterpark.

The Strand

Located in Galveston’s downtown area, The Strand offers an intriguing selection of shops, restaurants, galleries, and museums, such as the Galveston Railroad Museum boasting one of the largest restored railroad collections in the southwest. Take some time to enjoy the variety of shops in the district's beautiful historic buildings, many of which survived the 1900 Storm, which is featured at the Pier 21 Theater. Nearby, find the Ocean Star Offshore Energy Center and Museum, explore the tall ship ELISSA, or take a Harbour Tour to see Galveston Harbor up close.

Galveston Beaches

There are so many to choose from! Simply walk across the street from the San Luis Resort to enjoy the 10 mile stretch down what’s known as Seawall Urban Park. Or depending on what you’re look for, whether its family fun, volleyball, pristine sands or gentle surf, enjoy one of Galveston’s other popular beach parks.
